Far Peak Campsite

Far Peak Campsite is a campsite set in the middle of the Cotswolds, next to picturesque villages and green rolling fields. Set in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the campsite is in a prime location to enjoy what the Cotswolds have to offer.

Post COVID Camping

We booked a few days in August 2020, just after campsites opened again following the UK wide lock down. It was our first camping trip this year, and we were hesitant to see how the facilities would work. Currently, the toilets and showers are operational on a self clean basis.

On arrival, we drove in past well manicured fields, to find a small reception car park. The reception/check-in building is a small hut, where we were met by friendly and welcoming staff. We paid our fees and were asked to wait to be shown to our pitch. The check-in times are 12pm for off peak times and 2pm for on peak. Our pitch wasn’t quite ready as the previous occupants were hanging around chatting, but the staff apologised for them and led us over when the time was right.

Electric Hook Up

We had an electric point close to our pitching site and a water tap around 50 feet away. The site overall seemed busy with tents, big and small, but everybody was well spread out with good social distancing.

There are a few fields that make up the whole of Far Peak Camping site, separated by hedges or fences and they have an array of electric and non-electric pitches. Far Peak Camping also have a host of domes, huts and bell tents, set on 25 acres of woodland and parkland.

Post COVID, shared facilities are a bit of a tentative subject! I will say, I was very impressed with the cleanliness and the system that is in place. On arrival to the toilet block, there are bottles of sanitiser available for use. In each cubicle, you are asked to clean the toilet before and after use, with disinfectant readily available. Most people seemed to be following the rules, as the toilets were the cleanest I have ever seen for a campsite! The anxiety surrounding COVID and it’s transmission is reducing, knowing there is a good workable system in place.

Fire Pits and Snack Stops

Far Peak camping allows fires, and even hire out fire pits for personal use, with firewood too. Great for s’mores or marshmallow toasting!

On site there are snack facilities open in the daytime, and the Hayloft bar is open for dinner and drinks later on in the evening. These are separate companies to Far Peak though and have their own working systems and websites.

There isn’t a shop on site, and the closest one is in Northleach. A 2 minute drive by car or a 1 and a quarter mile walk across the fields on foot.

Far Peak Campsite

I would have liked to have had some information on the surrounding facilities when we booked in at reception. We weren’t given any leaflets or materials regarding the climbing walls or food places, which I would have appreciated. I’m not sure though, if this is possibly a practice that would usually occur, but due to COVID, has stopped. So I won’t mark them down for that until I know for sure! We usually visit places unknown to us so having local information on hand is helpful to us.

All round, a positive experience and a very friendly camp site. The prices were reasonable considering we went in peak times too, so we will definitely return if we decide to head to the Cotswolds again. A no fuss campsite, that catered to our needs and had plenty of space!
