A Sun Holiday to Hafan Y Mor

Our first visit to a Haven site was with a Sun Holiday at Hafan Y Mor in Wales. We booked a long weekend in October, from Friday to Monday. The Haven site had a £3 million refurbishment in April 2019, so we were looking forward to seeing what was on offer.

We arrived at 7.30pm on Friday evening. The staff at reception greeted me warmly and gave me the keys and a map explaining where we needed to go to get to our accommodation. We stayed in an apartment towards the far end of the park, but close to the beach, which was nice to look out at.

As we had arrived quite late, we only had time for a quick drive around, to unpack and have a quick bite to eat in the apartment. The bed linen was left for us to put on, so we snuggled down for the evening in anticipation for the weekend ahead.

Saturday

We woke to rain. Lots and lots of rain! We decided to cook a breakfast and see if it would settle down before having a wander around the park. Unfortunately, as is normal for us, I forgot something! We had driven straight from school and I hadn’t packed any trainers for Finley! We made a short trip to the nearby town to get some shoes for him to last the weekend! There is an Asda and a small retail park only a few miles away in Pwhelli.

Unfortunately the rain continued, so we made the decision to have lunch then head to the swimming pool.

Shore Water Park

A new and improved area to the park is the Shore Water Park. The are two flumes, a multi-lane slide and a confidence water toddler pool. It has fun aquatic features, with a giant tipping bucket and an aqua play area with spray jets and slides. The water park has two new 11-metre-high flumes, Tidal Twist and Coastal Cyclone which are the first double constrictor slides in the UK! It also has a separate lane and activity pool. The kids braved the slides and absolutely loved every second!

We spent around 2 hours in the pool, which was inclusive in our fun passes as part of the package. The changing facilities could be cleaner, but overall, with the amount of people in and out, it wasn’t too bad.

The Millies Cookies on the way out were appreciated to handle the hunger growls from the children! And myself and Dicky couldn’t stay away from the onsite Starbucks.

We headed back to the apartment to shower and change and walked down to The Cove for the evening entertainment. As it was nearly Halloween, the entertainment staff were dressed up in Halloween outfits and the theme ran all night. The Haven Characters were out and on stage, while the kids stood in awe from the dance floor. The entertainment was engaging and got the kids moving and grooving! Although a little overpriced for drinks and light up wands, we had a good night and left around 10.30.

Sunday

The sun came out! Oh, were we grateful to see the big ball of fire in the sky. We started the day off with a gentle walk around the Wales Coast Path that lies alongside the Haven resort. We walked a good 3 miles there and back, after finding a trig point and the Naval remains.

Dragon Lakes Activity Village

We headed back to Dragon Lakes Activity Village and paid for some activities for the kids. There are lots to choose from, including an adventure course in the sky, dragon boats on the lakes, trampolines, off-road 4×4’s and a free play park and basketball courts.

We paid for the hire of a Kart and let the boys commandeer one while myself, Dicky and Molly got on another. The hire was for an hour and we had so much fun riding around the site, through the chalets and up to the beach. The kids all swapped round and had a go at ‘driving’, which resulted in a good workout for our thighs!

Molly wasn’t tall enough or heavy enough for the other activities, despite being old enough, so the only other activity we could do was the 4×4 Off – Road vehicles. We had 15 minutes driving around the course, with all the kids driving their own car.

Our evening meal was booked at the Coast House through the Haven App, which I downloaded on the first day. The app is great in that you can plan your day with timed activities. The app shows whats on, and where and can send reminders of your choices so you don’t miss out!

Our experience of Hafan Y Mor was a happy one and we would certainly come back for another long weekend here. I’m not sure we would do a week, as all the activities are very pricey. For a family of 5, we could easily spend as much money as we would going abroad, and I would prefer the sunshine and an outdoor pool!

For a Sun Holiday, we had an absolute bargain and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
