Shugborough Estate With Kids

Nestled in the heart of Staffordshire, the Shugborough Estate offers houses, woodlands, art collections and monuments standing tall in blooming gardens. But what is it like to visit Shugborough Estate with kids?

Play Areas

As with most National Trust properties, Shugborough offers a vast array of entertainment possibilities, for the smallest of people. A play area is the biggest call to action, with a zip wire for those who fancy a bit of a thrill, and huge knobbly tree stumps to climb.

Picnic benches dot around the wooded wonderland, for adults to watch the children play and to gather the troops when hunger demands.

Georgian Mansions

The Georgian Mansion offers a treasure trove of history and the children can learn what it was like to be a servant. How pay was managed and to step back in time through touch and play.

Learn all about Lord ‘Patrick’ Lichfield, a budding photographer to the stars and Earl of the manor. Entrance to the Lichfield house are via timed tickets, so don’t miss out when entering the property.

Monuments

Walk through the grounds and see if you can spot the many monuments dotted around the estate. Most of them date back to the 1700’s and include elements from China and Greece in their designs.

The tea rooms are not to be missed, but if you bring a picnic, there is a space for eating under cover located through the alley at the back of the book shop. The Mansion tea rooms offer a lager meal, while the Park Hall Farm café supplies hot drinks and light snacks.

Park Hall Farm

Park Hall Farm offers welcome sights for children, such as Longhorn cows and Tamworth pigs. Learn about how the farm was taken care of, how cheese was made, and where the farm workers used to live.

And of course, a second hand bookshop is essential in a National Trust property! My children can spend hours in here if left alone!

As with all National Trust properties, if you are a member, entrance and parking is free. We pay £10.50 a month for a family membership and certainly get our monies worth.

If you don’t have a membership, entrance to Shugborough Estate is £14.00 per adult and £7.00 per child. Family tickets are available. Please see the website for further details.

Shugborough is located in Milton, near Stafford, Staffordshire. ST17 0UP
