With the first half term of the year looming, it is a race to find activities to keep the kids entertained. Here you will find a few things that will promise to be fun and maybe even free! What to do in the West Midlands at February half term.

Wildside Activity Centre

Gruffalo activity day with a re-telling of the popular story book.
10.30-12.30 and 1.30-3.30. £4.40 per child. Suitable for all ages, including under 3’s.

Puppet Making. Take in your recycling and engineer a puppet to take back home.
10.30-12.30 Suitable for 5’s and over. £4.40 per child.

Puzzles and Games 1.30-3.30. Make and create your own puzzles and games with your children.
Suitable for 5’s and over. £4.40 per child.

10.30- 12.30 Shelter building and fire lighting. Learn about how animals shelter in the winter and make your own dens and hides.
Suitable for 4’s and over. £4.40 per child.

1.30-3.30 Lantern Making. Decorate a glass lantern and a sun catcher to take home.
Suitable for 4’s and over. £4.40 per child.

10.30-12.30. Natures Printing Press. Use natural materials to make a mini book to take home.
Suitable for 5’s and over. £4.40 per child.

1.30-3.30. Get ready for Pancake Day. Get some ideas in ready for making pancakes.
Suitable for 5’s and over. £4.40 per child.

10.30-12.30. Make your own bird box. Get ready for nesting birds and build them a home they’ll want to settle in.
Suitable for 7’s and over. £4.40 per child and £6 if you want to take the box home.

Sandwell Valley Nature Reserve.

Every Tuesday during the school holidays Sandwell offers activities to learn about outdoor camping and survival skills. Fantastic for a budding bushman. Booking is essential and is suitable for 5-12 years.

The Sleepy Frog Trail 11.00-3.00.
Booking is required if you want to see the sleepy frogs waking up from the winter, ready to spring into the warmer months. Follow them on a journey around the reserve and learn about frogs as you go around.
Suitable for all ages.

Explorer Thursdays. Every Thursday in the school holidays Sandwell holds explorer days. Go on a bug hunt, pond dip or even picnic in the natural playground. Any age can join in but more suited for 5-12 year olds.

Suitable for 2-4 years to build toddler sized dens and and teddy tepees!

12.30-1.30
Wildlife Watch. Frosty Fairies and Wintry Wizards.
Suitable for 2’s and over to make magic potions along a journey into the woods.

Den building – 5 yrs plus. Survival skills are taught in this den building session.

19/02/2020-23/02/2020

Wilderness Wednesday afternoons.
10.30-12.00 and 1.30-3.00
Whittling Wands knife skills.
Select your perfect stick to whittle your own wand using safe knife skills.
Suitable for 8 yrs upwards.

Coventry Transport Museum

18/02/2020

Sprite-bots. 10.30-12.30 and 1.30-3.30.
For technology minded kids, head to the transport museum to use ‘Scratch’ to design their own digital sprites. There will also be a junk bot to take apart and put back together, to move and arrange as you wish.
Suitable for 7’s ad over. £8 per child plus an adult.

The transport museum is a free day out for anybody who wishes to visit any day. Learn about the history of transport and see wonders such as the fastest land vehicle and an old penny farthing.

Attingham Park

15/02/2020-23/02/2020. 2-3pm.
Deer Feeding. Feed the fallow deer their winter rations daily in the school holidays and every weekend at 2pm.

Kinver Edge and the Rock Houses.

17/02/2020 and 20/02/2020. 10.00-12.00 and 1.00-3.00.
Little Snappers.
Learn tips and tricks to photograph wildlife and nature for little ones in the morning and big ones in the afternoon. £5 per child.

Moseley Old Hall

15/02/2020-19/02/2020. 11.00-3.00 pm.
Wassailing.
Wake up the trees and toast in the new seasons with marshmallows and warm apple drinks. £1.50 for marshmallows.

Charlecote Park

15/02/2020-23/02/2020. 9.00-3.00 pm.
Half Term Welly Wander.
Wander around Charlecote park and receive a welly shaped ceramic flower pot to paint at home. You also get a bulb to plant and take care of. £3 per child.

As with most National Trust properties, they have a fantastic selection of play areas and woodlands to explore.
