Monthly Round Up

June Round Up

Welcome to the June Round Up

June has been a relaxed sort of month. After a fun filled holiday to Cornwall in May, we needed some time to recharge our batteries.

Sunday 2nd June

We were invited to Coral Island to explore, play and to see what all the fuss was about. We enjoyed our day out very much and was pleasantly surprised to see Blackpool is a lot cleaner than we remembered. The kids enjoy the 2p machines and the attractions that Coral Island have to offer. Kids eat free at all the restaurants so we had a full day of food and fun. You can read more about our day out to Coral Island here.

Sunday 9th June

Today the Cosford Air Show spread it’s wings for another annual display. How lucky for us that my brother lives around the corner! We got to watch the Red Arrows and the jets whizz by his house. All while enjoying the luxury of a barbecue and grass to lay on.

Sunday 16th June

Fathers Day saw us take another trip to Kinder Scout via Jacobs Ladder. This was our third galavant along the Pennine Way. Every time we had attempted the hike, it had rained. And I don’t mean just a dribble either. Was this time different? Well, we started with blue skies. Then a bit of rain. Then more blue skies. We stripped off as the sun shone down on us……. then the hail came. A hailstorm like none I’ve ever experienced, rained down on us. It beat against our skin, threatening to strip off layers. This lasted for a good 15 minutes as we scrambled to find shelter under Edale Rocks. Thankfully it wore off and we were able to reach our destination.

The trig got bagged and so we made our way back to the car. It goes without saying that we have seen enough of the Pennine Way from Edale and will never be returning. It’s cursed for us!

Sunday 23rd August

For his 40th birthday, I had purchased Bon Jovi tickets for Dicky. Today was D day. We left the kids with their Nan and headed to the Ricoh arena for a night of nostalgia. Our first dance at our wedding was to Bon Jovi’s ‘You had me from hello’, so it was nice to be a couple and reminisce about our wedding day. The concert was great ,the only downfall being the very uncoordinated parking at the end of the night!

Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June.

Through Instagram, I found Wild Night Out. An incentive to get everybody outdoors on a microadventure on one night of the year. We chose to take part with a wild camp in the Peak District. (I know it’s not allowed but we take care and Leave No Trace). With the tent on our backs, we wandered under Burbage Rocks and hunkered down for the night.

Sunday took us on a walk through Padley Gorge for a recce for our next Hikerkidz meet up. We explored the beauty of the gorge with all it’s hidden secrets and covered about 8 miles through the day. If you would like to know more about the meet up, please see this page.

On reflection, the June Round Up has been a mix of adventures. It’s strange how things can just pass me by! We have filled our time well and are looking forward to our next month of excitement. we are now heading into Birthday Season so will have lots of fun filled family days out.

Thank you for reading our June Round Up. Maybe you would like to read our previous months too?
