For a Peak District getaway, Camping at The Hollies is the perfect place for simple, back to basics camping. With The Roaches as a backdrop, who can resist the draw of some of the best walks in the Peaks?

Location
Located in Blackshaw moors, ‘Camping at The Hollies’ consists of 2 fields, a toilet block and a cold water washing up sink. It may sound simple, but sometimes that’s all we need. We drove straight on to the field and pitched the tent in an open space, backing on to bushes and another field. Another family had commandeered the right side, but there was plenty of space for a number of vehicles and tents.

Facilities
Another field at the back housed a few more tents, but the overall space was quiet, open with a few sheep as neighbours. On arrival, we are greeted by handmade signs that allowed us to pitch where we liked, and to call a particular number if we needed anything. We arrived at around 4pm, pitched and set up by 5pm, then phoned the number at 7pm once we realised an owner wasn’t around to pay our fares and see if we could get any firewood.

For £8 we were provided with a fire drum, so as not to scorch the grass, and a large bag of firewood. This was perfect for the 2 nights we stayed. It certainly helped provide us with the proper campsite experience as we toasted our marshmallows while the sun set.
The toilet block has 2 cubicles with lockable doors, a small sink and plenty of toilet roll. They are as clean as a toilet block can be in the middle of a field. Not quite spider free, but secure enough so they’re not totally wild!

Where to go
Camping at The Hollies is perfect for a Peak district adventure. Some of our favourite places are just 30 minutes walk away. Or a 5 minute drive if you prefer. The Roaches, Luds’ Church, and even Tittesworth reservoir. At the reservoir you can try watersports or meander around one of the nature walks, set out around the water. There is an accessible playground and plenty of toys around the walk to keep the children occupied!
