Adventure Checklist – A Free Printable
Adventure Checklist – A Free Printable.
I have found that my kids respond well with stimulation and something to keep them involved. This goes for most areas of their life, but more so when we are out hiking and adventuring.
They love to do the activity trails when we go to National Trust properties or the Forestry Commission, for example: Easter hunts, Christmas activities and Zog Trails. But there’s not always something like this available to them.
So, I decided to make my own Adventure Checklist. For the days when there might not be enough about the area we are visiting to hold their attention, I can give them the Adventure Checklist, and they feel excited about getting outside.
You can print yours off here if you would like to use it too, or click on the picture. It’s completely free!
We tried ours on a trip to Lud’s Church and the Roaches. I laminated the sheets to make them weatherproof and used stickers to mark off what we found, with the aim of peeling them off and reusing the checklist. It went down a treat, and we found most of the items on the list within the first half an hour. Maybe I made it too easy!
What to find?
I tried to pick things that would make them source different items, and get them thinking a bit about the environment. The kids will read signposts, ask questions about animals, explore caves and use their imaginations as the clouds roll by.
They can make their own Cairn. Which is a stack of stones, if you were wondering!
They can also find their own walking stick, which my kids love to run around in the woods to find. This will hopefully encourage them to walk further!
I’ve included things to make them look up, as well as down. Watching the clouds roll by and to identify different types of birds. There are lots of things for inquisitive little minds to find, which should be very accessible in all parts of the country.
Let me know if you use it and I would love to see the items that your kids find. Tag us on Instagram with the hashtag #hikerkidz.
Happy adventuring!
I love the variety of things you have on this sheet. I tend to theme mine quite heavily but I think I’ll try this idea on the next walk we do here on the farm with the children, looking up and down is great. #CountryKids
Thank you for the feedback. I hope they enjoy it 🙂
This is such a lovely idea! My daughter loves a good checklist and ticking things off, so this will certainly be something we’ll do over the summer 🙂
What a fab idea, there is nothing quite like going on an outdoor adventure hunt. My kids love it.
That’s great! I think all kids benefit from a bit of outdoors time.
This is a great idea and perfect for keeping them moving forward and not dragging their feet when you are trying to enjoy a walk! I think I might need to grab a few 🙂
Great! Let me know what you find!
We love going on adventures and having a cute checklist like this would make it even more fun.
It was so fun. The kids were very entertained.
What a fun idea, and I like how you have made it your checklist reusable too. Outdoor adventures are the best!
They are indeed! Thank you for your comment.
Brilliant idea . I need to print this out and get my kids outside more as we tend to hibernate a bit in the colder months!
Brilliant! Let me know what you think 🙂
I love this idea, what a great way of helping to make getting outdoors a little more fun. We’ve done rainbow nature hunts a couple of times which has worked well but I’ve never thought to do a checklist like this. Am tempted to have a think now and come up with my own one! Thank you for sharing this with #CountryKids
You’ll have to let me know if you do and i can try it out with the kids!
This is such a great idea and a great way to get children involved and inspired about exploring. I’ve found when I take my godchildren to places there isn’t set activities, I lose their attention so quickly. I’ll be giving these a go!
Thank you for your comment, I hope you find them as fun as we did!
That’s a cool idea, my girls would love something like this for when were out walking. I will pin this for future
What a brilliant idea! Gets kids involved, keeps them motivated while being in the great outdoors too xx
Thank you!
